With completion of the Glendora to Pomona project, the Construction Authority has completed 23 of the 25 planned Foothill Gold Line stations from Union Station to Montclair. The agency is now focused on completing the final two-station segment from Pomona to Montclair, which will add new stations in the cities of Claremont and Montclair to the Metro A Line system. Here is an update:
As you may recall, the LA Metro board of directors awarded the Construction Authority $798 million late last year from a state grant funded by SB125. Those funds are for the portion of the final project segment from Pomona to Claremont (in Los Angeles County). Unfortunately, just last month, the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) board of directors voted to stop negotiating with the Construction Authority and to remove local funding that had been set aside for the portion of the project segment from Claremont to Montclair (in San Bernardino County). In case you missed them, here are statements published by the Construction Authority (click here to read) and SBCTA (click here to read) about the September 3, 2025 decision, and here is a link to a story that ran in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin after the decision.
While the Construction Authority is still committed to working with our partners in San Bernardino County to complete the system to the future Montclair Station at the Montclair TransCenter in the years ahead, the agency is not holding up work on the 2.3-mile Pomona to Claremont project, which includes the future Claremont Station, and expects to start major construction in 2027 and have the project completed in 2031.
The Construction Authority is currently underway with the procurement process to hire the design/engineering team, and will be underway soon to separately hire a construction manager. The procurement process for the design/engineering team kicked off this past June with the issuance of the Request for Proposals (RFP), and yesterday morning, the Construction Authority received proposals from multiple teams, as seen in the photo below.
The Construction Authority expects to award the design/engineering services contract in January; the same month, the agency expects to issue the RFP for the construction manager.
